Pneumococcal Meningitis
Vancomycin is typically included in empiric regimens for meningitis to cover resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae along with a third generation cephalosporin.
A third generation cephalosporin or penicillin alone may be options for treatment of pneumococcal meningitis once susceptibility is known.
